Welcome to FloodSmart Communities
FloodSmart Communities is run by Jaylen McMahon (She/Her), a graduate student in the Online Masters of Natural Resources program. Jaylen is a true beach bum with a heart for adventure. She is dedicated to understanding community food systems and breaking down barriers to all kinds of resources in limited-income communities. She is also an artist and former artisan coffee-addict.
This blog is dedicated to showcasing features of the Ohio Creek Watershed and resiliency projects focused on reducing flooding in low-income neighborhoods. Jaylen's goal is to increase community engagement and provide educational resources to create flood-resilient communities.
Jaylen has a focus on the St. Paul's Blue Greenway project and the Chesterfield Heights and Grandy Village Ohio Creek watershed projects. Jaylen Currently serves as a Green Ambassador for the city, looking to connect residents with environmentally-focused initiatives and programs.
